Audition and Competition Preparation:
Are you preparing for university auditions or for a competition? It is imperative that you optimize your repertoire selection and performance, and Dr. Kuhny is experienced at helping pianists do so. Also, studying with a professor before college will help you with the demands of a university or conservatory professor.
It is vital to prepare for auditions with a teacher who understands the audition process and can perform all the repertoire that you want to study. Dr. Kuhny can play anything, even the most difficult pieces! She holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance from University of Illinois where she studied with Dr. Ian Hobson. His studio is one of the most competitive in the world, with most students coming from overseas.
To date, Dr. Kuhny has auditioned at major music schools and conservatories around the country and is very familiar with what will be required. She can help you “navigate the waters” in terms of preparing your pieces, understanding what schools will expect, and the best choice of university, college, or conservatory.

Coaching While A Full-Time Teacher is Away or Unavailable:
Are you away from school or unable to have lessons with your primary teacher? Dr. Kuhny is available to help coach students, particularly those at home when lessons are otherwise unavailable. Her goal is to help you continue your success and achieve goals in combination with your current teacher.
This coaching is available both in person and online. In situations such as COVID-19, Dr. Kuhny is happy to lend a helping hand when semesters have come to an abrupt end and lessons have been cut off. Many students still seek musical growth, particularly those preparing for a recital, competition, or jury.
